What's the best way to get from the airport in Santa Ana to West Hollywood?
I usually fly into LAX but for some reason I booked a flight into SNA this time around. My flight gets in around noon on Dec 18 and I have to be in West Hollywood in the early afternoon. I looked up taxis and shuttles and they're all about $75-$100 which is fine but was just wondering if there was another way. I also checked out Amtrak and it seems to run somewhat frequently but I am used to our east coast trains running constantly without delay...last time I took Amtrak in the west it was delayed about two hours while waiting for a freight train to go by...so I didn't want to go this route if it's going to be a similar trip. Thanks for any help.

What's wrong with renting a car? Train service doesn't run close to SNA/John Wayne airport. Your best bet might be to take a flyaway bus to LAX, which runs every 30-60 minutes, then take a bus to WeHo. Do a quick search on LAX Flyaway, then see metro.net for the bus schedule. Difference between west coast and east coast: Nobody on the west coast will die from exposure waiting hours for a train.

There is NO public transportation option that will get you from John Wayne Airport to West Hollywood within your time schedule. If you are at least 23 years old, and have a credit card "O-man's" suggestion to rent a car will be your best and only option. Otherwise you're stuck with the shared ride shuttle. A taxi would be cost prohibitive.

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner trains are pretty good and usually not majorly delayed. They come every hour, not every 6 hours like certain other trains in the "west", as you put it. So I think it should be fine. To get from SNA to the Irvine Amtrak station, you can take a shuttle or taxi, or you can walk down MacArthur Blvd. over the 405 freeway bridge and catch OCTA bus 86, and get off at Barranca Pkwy, which is where the station is.
